    Hayley Atwell recently finished filming Brideshead Revisited, directed by Julian Jarrold, in which she plays the lead female role of ‘Julia Flyte.’ Based on the well-known novel by Evelyn Waugh, the film also stars Matthew Goode, Emma Thompson, Michael Gambon and Ben Whishaw.  Atwell is about to start filming The Duchess, directed by Saul Dibb (Bullet Boy), and based on the bestselling biography Georgiana: Duchess of Devonshire by Amanda Foreman. Atwell will play the character of ‘Bess Foster,’ the Duchess’s closest friend, and star opposite Keira Knightley, who is playing the Duchess.

    On television, Atwell won critical acclaim for her performance in the BBC’s The Line of Beauty, an adaptation of Alan Hollinghurst’s Booker Prize-winning novel, written by Andrew Davies and directed by Saul Dibb. Atwell played the role of ‘Catherine ‘Cat’ Fedden’ and starred opposite Dan Stevens and Tim Mclnnerny.  Next year, she will be seen in Mansfield Park, directed by Iain B MacDonald, in which she plays the role of ‘Mary’ and co-stars with Billie Piper.  Mansfield Park will be shown on PBS as part of 2008 Masterpiece Theatre presentation of the complete works of Jane Austen. Atwell’s other television appearances include Ruby in the Smoke, directed by Brian Percival and Fear of Fanny, directed by Coky Giedroyc.

    In addition to her television and film roles, Atwell has appeared on stage in: “Man of Mode,” (National Theatre), directed by Nicholas Hytner and written by George Etherege; “Women Beware Women” (RSC), directed by Laurence Boswell; and “Prometheus Bound” (Sound Theatre), directed by James Kerr.
